Favorite Dubbing for Nymph Collars

Hi,
I can see everyone has their favorites. This may be a bit old fashioned, but Hare's Mask, for me is great for both nymphs and wets. I must admit the squirrel is nice, but a good Hare's Mask offers a tier some different colored fur, taken from different places on the mask. The dyed masks offer even a greater range of colorations

You said you touch dub, and the squirrel just might give you a little more spiky results. I use the Leisenring method of dubbing a lot, and it works well with the Hare's Mask.

The fly below, is not necessarily a nymph-more like a pupa, but the result with the Hare's Mask was excellent. It is Jim Slattery's Triple Threat Caddis. The fly is a killer.

Blacklabel: you have no idea. But of the couple hundred of dubbings I have, I really only use about 6. Those 6 run out, and I replace them. Strange the way that works.

Al, that is a great looking fly. In the past year you have taken your tying to another level!

As far as dubbing for collars I use Hareline dark grey and olive. I also use Waspi squirrel in black. Like Kyle said sometimes I use Ice dub to give a different look.

Squirrel and Hare's Ear are hard to beat, and there are lots of color variations. The squirrel is even spikier than the Hare's Ear. A touch of Ice Dub or Prism Dub blended in is nice too. I also like pure Prism or Ice Dub for a collar- it provides some attention getting flash, but due to to the narrow width it isn't too gaudy.
