Hit the Farmington today with friend BJ. Got to the river around 6:30am. I set us both up with a golden stone fly nymph as well as a cream caddis larva and within a few minutes, BJ hooked up and landed 2 fish. I was very happy for him because those were his first ever Farmington River fish. Last time I took him to the river, he, my friend Ron, and I were washed off the river due to downpours so him hooking up was sweet. I landed a few fish after him. Then it stopped. As time went on, I hooked and landed 2 other fish. Then it stopped. BJ needed to break for breakfast, first time for me doing this, but he drove so we broke for breakfast. Water temp was at 32 degrees upon arrival but the air temp was 23. Actually dropped a few degrees while fishing. After breakfast we hit the river again. I wanted to hit the same spot to see if it had picked up. It really never turned on. BJ did hook another fish but lost it. I myself foul hooked a nice brown on his dorsal fin. There was another lull. I then hooked and landed 2 more fish and that was it. There was action but not what I thought there would be. But, we had a fun time. BJ landed his first few fish. Most of our fish came early am. Total between us was 12 fish hooked and 9 landed. Looking forward to warmer weather. I have had my fill of the winter stuff. ;D
