I guided John and his brother on the Housatonic River in Connecticut last Sunday. The weather and fall colors were spectacular, but the river was about 1,700 cfs due to rain on Thursday. When we hit the water Jack, who has fly fished a fair amount said to me... "how are we going to catch them in this?" I simply replied, "we just have to fish differently and in different locations. We rigged up and hit the water. Jack was into fish instantly. It never got really good, which was expected, but we picked away at them all day. We concentrated on the edges of the larger pools and put together a nice catch of all brown trout. Indicator Nymphing with Stoneflies and pompoms were the main meal ticket due to the high water.
