Wow. Aaron with the smack down. I like the idea Torrey. I'll think of some ways to entice more sign ups, I like where your head is at though. I just aaron is expressing frustrations that I have as well. That stark realization we have come to over time... there is no real money in Fly Fishing, good thing we all enjoy it so damn much!
(this deviates really far from the original topic)
I am with Aaron on the smackdown. Many of us have really upped our game from the learning on the forum. The reason we have is not the spoon fed content we read, it is the hours of practice and tactics adoption we do at home and on the stream (maybe I take it to the extreme, but that is a personal thing). Henceforth, I am trying to limit the really detailed spoon feeding.
It also bothers me that we go through hoops to limit specific location information (Neversink Gorge, pools on Farmington) while others give detailed information. I politely asked Kyle to quit discussing locations on the Farmington. It is for his benefit too, but he may be too naive to know it. If someone says the riffle near Whittemore's is hot, you can bet there are a handred people reading it, and ten of them will be fishing it the following weekend.
What frustrates me about the forum is that people don't take the time to search what is already there, but instead ask the same questions over and over (and we answer them, giving them the spoon feed). It also bothers me that people don't take the time to write in complete sentences or express themselves in cohesive thoughts. Their lack of attention tends to dilute the great contributions of the site and its many fine writers (Davy).
Finally, it is not going to take long before someone realizes there are no guide licensing requirements in CT, and starts guiding here. I don't begrudge anyone for working hard and making some extra money, but we all need to be mindful that their actions don't border on exploitation.
