    Re: Flat Lead Wire

May I add a suggestion until you order the flat wire from a supplier or go to a local golf pro shop as they use flat lead strips to add weight to golf club heads. I got a couple of sheets of this lead from my son's pro shop in PA. However---I normally a lead wire spool pull out a foot of it and simply tap it with a small hammer, gently on a hard surface until it flattens out sufficiently. 8)

    Re: Flat Lead Wire

I was searching for flat lead wire, and came upon this website somehow through the search. Guess under those circumstances, it'd be fitting if I made my first post in this thread.

Thanks for the info. I gotta get my grubby paws on some of this stuff.

This is what we all want:

It comes in three sizes, fine, medium and strong. Fine and medium are the sizes I have. I am sure that Fly-Tying Specialties will let us know when he has more available.

    Re: Flat Lead Wire

Alain gave me this idea from a previous discussion via e-mail.

He suggested using a dowel and flatten out the standard round lead wire we have available in fly shops.

I took his idea to the next step and purchased a plastic rolling pin, used for kitchen work. It is a heavy weight plastic with very slick surface.

Tape the ends of some cut off lead pieces down to a flat surface and gradually roll them flat. To have a consistant thickness,,,,,,you can use some painters tape on both ends of the rolling pin to build up rings,,,,this will give you a set thickness for the wire flattening. With the long rolling pin you can make a lot of them at one session.

    Thanks Alain for the idea.

    Regards,
    FK
