Kaz: thanks for the information and your help during our recent trip. Maybe next time the three of us can meet up.

I wanna say I remember reading an article about that river many years ago, when it first "emerged" as a trout fishery, and that they said the best way to access the river (other than with a boat) was with a mountain bike. Guess that jibes with the no road comment Kaz made.

    Aaron,

I am glad to see you finally got to check it out down there. Both rivers have some of the most spectacular scenery in the east that I have seen. The first two pictures from the NB of the brown and bow were taken from my favorite pool on the river. In that same pool I watched a guy land about a 28" 9# brown two years ago and I have seen some of the biggest fish of my life in the deep run at the head of that pool.

It really looked like the NB was gushing while you guys were there. I generally like flows around 250cfs the best; there is still plenty of water but you can actually cross easily at that level. I have been there for flows around 450cfs and crossing is barely an option, with the exception of a FEW places if you know the river (which I don't very well).

The Savage generally runs fairly clear from everything I have witnessed, during more stable conditions anyhow. I am not sure what you thought about it, but wading on the Savage was a struggle for me every time. The steep gradient and slippery rocks make a deadly combo.
