Did anybody fish the Farmington Saturday morning? I got skunked. Started at daybreak and could only fish until 9. Maybe it just had to warm up a bit but i was still frustrated. I know the fish are there. Fished below ovation for the most part.

What time did you start?

I was there for about two hours. I landed 9 and lost more than that. They were biting lightly and coming off.

What flies were you using? I was using 2 caddis larvas in green/olive. Both were size 16. Where in NJ did you come from?

The MDC shut down the dam Saturday morning, so that had an impact.

I was there too, with two friends. We all caught fish, mostly in the moderate to fast water. There was a moderate morning hatch of Blue Quills (I think, but maybe they were BWOs) and some fish were rising. We fished from 530-1100. Varieties of caddis, cased and uncased, worked for us. I was Polish nymphing and my two buddies used indicators. In the fast water I was fishing, most of the takes were solid. I saw a big fish make a splash and cast to it, and landed my best fish, an 18in fat rainbow. About 4 of my fish were holdover browns. The action went up and down the whole time. For a short period, we would all hook up, then there might be a lull for an hour, then it would start up again.

I started fishing around 5 am, using olive caddis tied on #14 and 16 scud hooks. I fished dark olive and flourescent green, also tried some #18 yellow and black stones. I was doing, I thought, pretty well with the new nymphing methods but maybe I am just not getting the flies where they need to be in the faster water. I only live twenty minutes from ovation pool but have limited chances to get to the river and practice the craft. Really chomping at the bit for the clinic on 6/21. I'm sure between Loren's tutoring and everybody elses input I will figure it out. Thanks for replying Alain and Aaron, look foreward to seeing you guys at the clinic if not sooner on the river.

Maybe early this Saturday we can hit it up before my guide trip. I just have to see what time it starts.

That would be great, just let me know what time you might be up on the farmington and I will see if I can make it. Generally I can get out earlier real easy, its once the natives wake up and get restless that my help is required on the homefront. Being so close to the river I can be anywhere from the upper TMA downriver in 20 minutes.
