That line would be fine for smallmouth bass topwater fishing. It could also do well for nymphing in large rivers or fishing hoppers out west.
Hey I am not exactly new to the site but pretty new to the forum. I recently won some fly lines at my TU banquet and I am trying to find the best application for them. I have a Cortland 555sl Rocket taper 6 wt floating line. So, how do I get the best use for this line? Thanks

I know a lot of you guys are big fans of the Rio Nymph fly line. Is there a big difference in the 2007 model with the indicator tip versus the 2008 model, which I am not sure if it has the indicator tip or not. I have always been leary of bright orange fly lines and tips but I have seen last year's model of Rio Nymph flyline discounted down to around $35.
Got Elsinore?
I have the 2008 version of the Rio Nymph line and it has the orange welded tip. This is the best nymphing line I have ever used. Wait until you roll cast! Last year's line is good too, but I believe the 2008 version has many technological improvements in slickness and floatation. Nymphmeister can talk about the specifics, or check the Rio web-site.
For '08, they lengthened the head from 48' to 60', and they have a new slickening process that is at least equal to Sci Angler's AST. The line floats like a cork, shoots like a dream, and casts heavy stuff like nymph rigs & split shot like a charm. I love it. The '08 version is definitely an improvement over '07.

Thanks for the info Torrey. I might as well do it up right.

60 foot head???? What is it, a triangle taper? Hahaha.
You can't have too much HEAD....![]()

I have used both the Sci anglers and Rio line and love them both. I find little difference between the two except for the indicator tip, which is helpful. I also use the sci-ang line to throw bass bugs and it does a good job of it with that nymph taper. Nice way to save a little money on line.
You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.
