JR: Don't get caught up thinking you need to use Czech nymphs to CN..it's a technique irrelevent to the flies.

Loren,
Thank god you just said that! I hjave been trying to explain the same thing to my friends. They always say " are you going to tie Czech nymphs?"
What do you think personally think that the pink spots do for the fly? Do you think the fish sees that color as pink under the water? i have hear a broad range of theories but I was wondering what you thought of it. Do you fish those same flies in streams in NY? I was going to make my weighted fly a cranefly larva. Most of our streams have them but they are under fished. Do you think that insect is a good place to start as far as weighting flies.
Torrey told me that the caddis in the freestone rivers in Europe are quite large and for that reason they can use them for their weighted flies. Just curious to hear your thoughts.
I think they are just points of contrast that get your fly noticed over the zillion other things floating by. Pink is not the only color, and I think flash constitutes a hot spot as well.
I think you may be spending too much effort trying to match the hatch....don't ever forget how many fish a Vibrax spinner or piece of corn catch--and nothing in the stream looks like them either!

I know Loren that I dont need the Czech nymphs to do the CN tech. I was just curious what your czech nymphs look like.
Loren, I'd still like to steal that fly box from you ;D. Do you have a favored "anchor fly" that you typically use to get down in fast water?
