Guides as in fishing guides or books?

I will ask one of my clients which guide he uses. He always seems to have very good experiences when fishing there. Last year he got a 22 inch rainbow there and a few dozen other fish.

I would recommend contacting Joe Dilschnieder at Montana Troutstalkers...you can google it. Or anyone at BlueRibbon Flies...great experiences with all the guides there.

I will second Blue Ribbon Flies.

I have made several trips to the Yellowstone area. I would recomend a guide if you want to fish one of the many larger rivers. It is definatley a plus to fish from a boat. If you plan to fish a smaller steam such as the Gallatin, Soda Butte, or Slough then you may not even need a guide. In general, I have found fishing much easier than where I do most of my fishing on the Delaware system. Get some good books and also do research on the interent as to what bugs will be hatching and where to access the streams you want to fish. Visit some fly shops also. They seem to give out more info on where to fish and what to use than eastern shops.

    Re: Yellowstone

Yellowstone Park or the Yellowstone River outside the park? There are no boats allowed on (any?) rivers in the park. Last year, a good portion of the summer fishing in Yellowstone was under a heat wave. Some waters were closed at times, others were under voluntary closures based on the time of day.

Water conditions are better this year, but warmer weather conditions should not be ignored!

Call Blue Ribbon before you go.
