Fished the Brodhead today at one of the parks. Water was up a bit from the rains. Managed a few browns and a rainbow on rubber leg stoneflys. Saw some ISO's toward evening, so I tried a dry fly. Hook a brown on a pattern called a Cinberg. Something ive been experimenting tying lately. Its an old school pattern doesn't imitate anything in particular. My fly was a bit on the large side, size 10. Should make some in a size 14. Had a few more rises to it but no hook ups. Tied a pc. Of tippet off the back of the cinberg and added a isonychia emerger . Hooked a smaller brown on the emerger but didn't get it to hand.
Good catch! Glad to know they are surviving the summer in the park sections. I fish there quite a bit in the spring also and it is nice water. Do you ever see tricos on the Brodhead?
Saw some flys stuck in a spider web when I was there yesterday, couldn't tell if they were tricos or blue winged olives. I don't have much luck with dry flies there. Went back today to one of the other parks and hooked about ten. Got one nice brown from an undercut bank that was about 15". Beautiful color. Changed flies about 5 times to finally get one to reach bottom. Wish I knew how to post pics on the site. I'd like to share. Caught mostly browns today with a few scrappy rainbows.
That's cool that the fish did well in there this summer. I fished it a few times and only caught one rainbow to go with a ton of browns. Blind fish Isonychia dries in the skinny water and look out! Lots of fun.
They turned onto the drys in the skinny water when the sun got off the water. I picked up the last two fish on drys in water I nymphed earlier in the day and got skunked.
Fished the Brodhead today at one of the parks. Landed 8 fish. Browns and bows. Biggest was a 17" rainbow which was on the skinny side. Caught about half of the fish on a brown and yellow rubber leg stonefly. The others on a small beadhead BWO emerger nymph. Water temp was 64 degrees. Waters are cooling. Threw a dry fly when the sun got off the water. Had to takes but failed to land them .was using a barbless hook on an ISO pattern. Seems the more these fish jump the greater the chance of them shaking free. Still fun. Have to find some new water besides the parks. I see some nice water above one of the bridges I cross on the way to the parks. Just need to find a place to park where my car won't be towed.
