I travel to Texas quite a bit.

    GRTU Contacts

Email Jim Roberts, his contact is on the link. I've emailed him before and he's answered. The Guadelupe is a tail water through Texas Hill Country. One of my absolute favorite places in the country. I've yet to fish it, but its on my list. Caddis, and the usual tailwater stuff from what I've read. I've talked to people in Texas, and they don't know you can fish for trout there!

If you love live music, Texas-Hipsters, and awesome barb-b-que, skip the touristy crap of San Antonio (The river walk, Alamo, is cool, for a day. One), and stay the weekend in Austin. 1.5 hour drive and SUPER cool town. I fly into many places, but I always fly out of Austin.

If you have any other travel questions let me know!

If you stay any where near 6th street in Austin you'll be fine. Last I stayed was the downtown Hampton Inn. That was brand new and a quick walk to 6th. You'll have your choice from Texas
Style BBQ joint, cafeteria style with trays to fine upscale dining. You can go into any of the bars and get a good local craft brew and then turn around and finish the night with a PBR or it's Texas cousin Lone Star. You can rent a canoe at a bunch of places and go paddling. There's Barton springs, a cold water natural pool that keeps at about 70 even in the heart of summer, swimming for like 3 bucks. I could go on and on.

As far as San Antonio goes, I've stayed right on the river walk, which is easy to get around from. The River Walk itself is deceptive, as it's mostly Sub Street level you don't really see it driving around. The food is mostly touristy stuff, but there's some decent stuff. Yelp is your friend.

Pm me for specifics once your set up.

    Avid,
My in-laws live in Boerne, which is just up the road from San Antonio. I've fished a lot of the rivers in the hill country and some of them are quite good. The Guadalupe actually has a tailwater trout fishery. Most of the streams in the area have Bluegill, Guadalupe Bass and Largemouth Bass and your typical trout setup will work just fine. The Pedernales and the Medina rivers are probably closest to S.A. but if you get the chance you should try and fish the Llano River. It's a lot like a Rocky Mountain freestone stream. There is a small fly shop in Fredericksburg and they can steer you in the right direction as far as flies and where to access the river. Hope this helps.

Now you have my attention, I've been taking care of my Dad's estate in central Texas and I'm due out there at the end of the week. After busting my ass in the sun for a few days I may have to take a float trip....do they fish the Guadalupe all summer?

Just booked a half day float trip on the Guadalupe for next week! Will post details after!

Had a nice float trip. We fished from about 7am-12:30pm. Caught one rainbow early on a zebra midge, had another chase a wooly bugger to the surface. Also had fun catching small but fiesty Guadaloupe Bass (new species for me) and sight fishing for Gar. I think this tailgater would fish much better in the fall and winter. The partiers on inter-tubes were so thick they basically covered the water at the spot where we left our car by the time we finished.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345126213.649776.jpg
