Using Polypro yarn as wing material for small dries

Just wondering if anyone uses this......I've been experimenting alot ....as per my prior post CDC/Snowshoe rabbit clearly are the norm and and produce solid results. Having said that...I'm really intrigued by how nice some of my flies are looking when I tie in the Polypro as the wing - they are neat and tight....it floats forever in a glass of water and looks as "fishy" as my cdc/snowshoe ties when I hold it up and view it from underneath. I know alot of people use this for either parachute posts or spinner wings - but what about actually tying them in as wings. Just curious.

Poly yarn is indeed user friendly and makes neat wings. It's also easier to see than some other materials. I'm indifferent to it because I store my flies in boxes having open compartments and the wings become disheveled as they bounce around during the season. Using a box with with ripple foam or slits like the C & F, having enough clearance so as not to squash the wings, will hold the flies in place and solve that problem.

I have used Poly for wings too. I feel it is easier than matching feather tips and you can vary the colors too. It may not be the traditional way to tie the pattern, but I feel that the traditional way is a guide and if you can improve on it so be it.

Definitely. I use it on alot of my loopwing emergers for the same reason that wwheff said. It's really easy to work with. Brandon got me tying a lot more of my dries with CDC (used to use snowshoe and polypro), but I still tie some with the yarn. PM me your address and I could send you a couple.
