I have to say that the article does show a perfect example of local ignorance. Everyone is concerned with primarily a warm water fishery that no one really does anything with. But now that they are doing some work to the Res. and pumping mud down evryone downstream is up in arms. None of these people even think to look higher for the answer and I'm not talking gods. The ecosystem of the upper Esopus is way more fragile and way more abused. Simple bank work is the answer for everyone and thing involved in this mess.

I'm going to cite a passage from Paul Weamer's Flyfishing guide of the upper delaware river .....which by the way is a great read......which i completely agree with and which I'm sure everyone here agrees with....just i'm going to change one word....the name of the river ...."I WHOLEHEARTEDLY BELIEVE THAT NEW YORK CITY'S WATER SUPPLY IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN ALL THE TROUT IN THE ESOPUS SYSTEM. I TAKE ISSUE WITH THE DECISIONS OF THE DEP OFFICIALS ONLY WHEN THEY HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO BOTH MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST PRIORITY FOR THEIR WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM AND PROTECT THE WILD TROUT FISHERY AND HAVE FAILED TO DO THE LATTER"...... that's the problem none of us disagree that NYC maintaining a solid water system surpasses a good trout fishery what dep is doing has nothing to do with maintaining their healthy water...its just being lazy and cheap...they don't care about any corrections that will cost them money. Its also good that this issue effects the downstream folks.....the more people affected the more chance something gets done.

I'm still suprised that the local Chamber of Commerce has'nt tried to do anything. You would think they would try to get in the revenue from fishing since a majority of the towns that lay on it's banks depend on the river for some sort of income camping,tubingf,fishing ect. With mud flowing who wants to do any of that. I wonder if anyone has ever thought about suing the state for loss of income because of the dirty water?

We should put together a short about the whole deal and run it at the Woodstock film festival. Plenty of tree huggers with pull in that town

Thats a good idea Esopus Guy make a video like Gas Land show the people how NYC abuse the system. Look at the camp ground in Phoenica it lost half its land to stream erosion. F**k politics they don't give a flying F@#k about the people they care about there walletsnd thats it.
