    Got Out This Afternoon...

I decided to hit a section of a local creek that I had never fished before. Got to the stream around 12 and fished till just before dark. I tried some new micro nymph patterns I've been working on, caddis larva, thread midges and small stoneflies. The creek, to the best of my knowledge, does not hold any wild fish, but it is stocked so I was looking for a few holdovers. I mixed it up, indicator nymphing the deep pools and short line nymphing the outstanding pocket water this creek has. I fished for a few miles up stream with nothing to show for it. I called it a night and had my dad pick me up. It was really tough fishing for a stocked creek. I am, however, getting better with the euro techniques each time I use them. I didn't see a single fish, but I did get to do some entomology. The creek was loaded with caddis, midge larvae, small winter stones, a few mayfly nymphs, and much to my surprise quite a few large golden stoneflies. (By large I mean 12s or so. For a creek only 12-20 feet wide, thats pretty big in my book.) It was really nice to get out today. The only other tracks I saw belonged to the 30 plus deer I saw tonight. And people wonder why I love urban bowhunting!

Took a few pics today. Sorry for the quality, but I forgot to grab my dads camera, so I used my phone.

Shot of what much of the creek looked like.

    Another creek photo.

A quick plug for Redington. Really love their rods.

All in all, I had a great day. I found some new spots to try this spring, worked on my short line nymphing techniques and decided that I want this snow to go away. It was "fun" walking through snow drifts above my waist and trying to figure out where the ground ended and the creek began!

Awesome report. I really enjoy fishing "streams with no fish". Until you fish them yourself, you never know. Over the past years I have had some interesting finds. As far as the entomolgy, you are so far ahead where I was at your age. I only knew corn, wax worm, earth worm, and power bait. Keep them coming, and the pictures too.

It's good to get out. I finally got together with a another TPO member and we had a good time fishing today, a little tough, but good. I'm thinking I should probably be doing more indicator fishing. That may be more productive.

That creek looks to be near frozen. Those are some tough conditions! Don't worry about today.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I hope to get out again on Monday. Hopefully I'll have some fish pictures too!
