Cape Cod 06/28

Just got back from a week of 25-30 mph winds at the cape. Good times, the flats on Monomoy are ranging in the low 70's, not too many fish, but tons of Vibert box sightings in the plover nests along the beach. If you like seal watching I would seriously consider going to Chatham Light beach. Estimated at around 500 seals off the shoreline cruising to smash any fish in site. Its almost like poaching fish from a dog fed river in pennsylvania for those poor fish, they get close to shore and they dont have a chance.

Witnessed a stellar size 24 Pseudo-cloen blue winged olive hatch at the mouth of muddy creek and they baby stripers and hickory shad were on them.....it was a spectacle to be seen by all. The rock wall adjacent to the portion of route 28 that the creek runs under had two rainbow trout vibert boxes teaming with fry....unreal. The six weight was creaking every time we hooked another schoolie on those size 24's, What a trip. Get there soon or your missing out.

Rich, Last time I was on the Cape, same spot, the seals were sipping those small olives and I managed to catch pod of them cruising the shallows. I punched out a 90' cast with an arial mend and stuck a giant hooked-jaw seal on a # 24 emerger. What a fight, It ran all the way to the dam Vinyard. Once the rising stopped, I nymphed a few of the seals in the rips. The key to this is a small bouy for a strike indicator and a tandem rig of "Torrey's improved fox squirrel nymphs".What a thrill!!! Tight lines and hold on.

Yeah, I heard thats a deadly tactic. Nothing like catching a 500 lb seal on 8x.....You want to talk about playing fish to death...its almost like those guys on church pool with those browns they hook on 8 and 9x, that claim cant be caught on nothing else.....Try fishing with a 1 weight next time with those winds, then you can be on the same parr as those church pool mudhens....

just like the guy who told justin this weekend that he reels 20 inch browns in on the west branch in less time then it takes for him to get in his 18 incher on 4x.... ??? we met some really FRIENDLY :

One of the funniest strings I have read on TPO so far. Just wanted to let you guys know that when you're done killing the seals on the Cape, you can switch gears to beaver and mink on our local streams. When you are sick of sticking the 25" stocked pigs in Pa you should think of beaver. It is a closely guarded secret that beavers are suckers for parachute hare's ears in any size and they have been known to double back up stream for a muddler stripped slowly across the current. Mink on the other hand are much smarter. To bag one you will need 10x minimum. I recommend pairing a Griffith's Gnat (size 28) with a black serendipity (size 30) dropper. Nothing like having a pissed off mammal on the end of your rod. Just be careful when you land it. Have you had your rabies shot?

Glad to see the lighter side of this board with all of the heavy debate that is going on.
