    More Salters and reports needed!

Hey, just trying to wake up the other salters out there! Looking for more reports on saltwater action as well as fish talk. Yes, I am a troutbum but I LOVE THE SALT! I have come to the conclusion that I am both, a troutbum and a salter. LOVE IT! That's whats great about New England and especially CT. Best of both worlds. Great trout fishing and some of the best saltwater fishing in the world. Yes, I said world. LI Sound is a wonderful place plus you have MA to boot. I do most out of my yak but some places I can beach it and fish from shore, sometimes go out with friends who have boats, it's great. I will be fishing the worm hatch next week on Wed and Thurs and will post reports. Hopefully it warms up a bit. Cold weather keeps the worms down. If that happens, worm hatch could be nill. I'll keep ya updated. I would like to see the saltwater section grow a little more to help make the sight even more of a complete fly fishing website. It's great now but always looking to grow and get EVEN better. Tight ones.

I agree. I have a growing interest in this area, to my wife's dismay. Now even the family vacation to the beach is not safe from the dreaded fly rod! I know very little about it though so I will be doing a lot of learning and gleening this season. Speak up you salty salters! What is a New Jersey fisherman to do?

well.... if you can hit it right there are striped bass to catch right at the dundee dam on the passaic river right as we speak. i havent been there in a few years but there are times that i have hit it right and have done quite well.... despite the fact that place is a sewer...literally. also i know there are fish to be found in the hackensack river as well. trout5 you might also want to check out some of the spots in the back of the raritan bay near keyport and beford. this is a night game though. fishing can be red hot there at this time of the year and in addition to the striped bass that are there i have caught ... and killed numerous weakfish over 10 pounds there in the spring.

I hear those weakfish can be good eating. And I want to hit some of those infamous blitzing blues.

Can you catch them from shore? Where is this occurring?

if you fish near beford off the jetty by the inlet you should get them pretty good. there is a new york waterway ferry stop there. the fishing gets good abotu an hour after the last ferry docks. its enough time for the water to settle down and the fish come in. there are also commercial fishing boats there and i would think it creates a sort of chum slick out into the bay.
