Thread: Rising Fish?

    Rising Fish?

Ok, here's the deal. I'm off from work on Wednesday and Friday. I mostly fish weekdays, when it's less crowded. I will be fishing during the day both of those days, and I'm taking out a neophyte fly fisherman and would like to get him into some dry fly action. Would it be in my best interest to go to the Farmington or Housatonic for fishing on top, or are both a crapshoot at best? Morning spinnerfalls due to the cold nights?

I'm 15 min from the Farmington, and 20 from the Housatonic, so I prefer to stay out this way. Any thoughts? Feel free to PM if you prefer not to post for the world to see.
    Thanks,

    Jeff

IF you want the highest probability of finding fish on top, I would always bet on the Farmington over the Hous.

If the line ain't tight, ya ain't doin it right

Can't speak about the Farmington, but you may have a shot on the Housy. The trout are becoming more opportunistic for surface meals as I found here and there random rises today throughout the river. The hendrickson duns are basically finished, but you may have a small chance on spinners. Caddis however should be increasing each day forward as I spotted a few today. Compare this info with a farmington report and make a decision, good luck!

it sounds to me that the farmington is the place to be for rising trout. i have heard some good stuff from there lately!!! the only problem is that the "hatch" there is very short in duration. if the caddis get going on the housy in the next day of two thats where you want to be!!! the bigger holdovers will show themselves.

I know this won't help because it's during the evenings. But tangled with a bunch of rainbows on the Housy tonight. All on spinners. Bring him to your favorite river the Naugadump. ;D

Thanks to all for your input. As it turns out, he can't make it tomorrow, so I'm unleashed. I'll just have to decide as I head out.

Since you're free it may be a good opportunity for you to work on your nymphing... oh, I mean bobber - technique, Jeff.
