Water under the bridge.
No problem DB. If you don't catch anything don't get discouraged. If you get a fish to follow or flash on your fly you now know where he lives. Then you can work on what color or retrieve to get him to strike your next time through.
I cant wait to streamer fish the Lackawanna..there are some large browns in there. They found one dead 29 inches almost 10 lbs! Thats a wild fish! They grow old and big and I havent had much luck fooling them with streamers but again I cant wait to go on the river with a 4x leader and tippet spool armed with nothing but a box of streamers. Sounds like a fun challenge.
Esopus if you get a chance open the the Lackawanna River tab under Pennsylvania thread and look at the slob I caught on a tunsten bead black wooly bugger.
Brandon is right, the hardest part is leaving your nymphing gear home and going out with just the streamer set up. It's much easier catching fish nymphing, especially the Euro methods, but watching those fish chase your streamer or come up from the dark water to smack it is addicting.
Maybe we can plan a day on a stream with a few of us and just throw some meat at them. That would be pretty cool, trade off flies and swap technique tips. Anybody interested???
I will..... I wish I could cast my streamers on 4x. I'm running 12lb Flouro.on the light side and 20lb more often than not. Streamer takes can be vicious. If your casting bigger than #6 I'd personally go heavier. You chance casting the fly right off or loosing that big one from the hook eye wearing on the line during casting. If not check your line........often. Simple bulk Berkley Flouro. or something similar is good here.
