Gloves, preparing for the cold winter months: recommendations

Hey all, I'm looking into a good pair of fishing gloves to endure the sub-zero days for Steelheading in the later winter months. I'm looking possibly for a pair of cut-offs. I have a warm pair already by Thinsulate, with the finger/mitten flap that gives the option of using them as true cutoffs, or a full fingered glove. But, I'm looking for something maybe neoprene, to keep dry (if there are such gloves)? Any and all suggestions would be welcome.

I dont think there is a real good glove when fishing in real cold weather only because of the fact that you have to expose your fingers alot. I find that a good pair of wool gloves or mittens that you can fold back work for me and i carry a pair of ski gloves if my hands get to cold and just take a brake for a few minits. Hand warmers are a must. some of the mits that fold back have hand warmer pocket built right in. Oh and make sure you have more than just one pair

I have awesome gloves. The finger tips pull back. They're waterproof. They're pretty darn warm too! They're the glacier glove.

I have had several pair of "fly-fishing" gloves, but I have had the best success with plain old inexpensive rag wool gloves. In really cold conditions, the best advice is to step out of the water for a while and stick your hands in some thick mittens.

I have tried several types of neoprene, fleece finger-tipless, and wool fingertipless

In my experience, the neoprene gloves cut off hand circulation and contribute to coldness.

The plain fleece fingerless are useless against a cold wind. The windproof fleece (I have simms) is much better.

The wool are my favorites because they perform almost as well as the windproof fleece when dry but are far superior when wet. Occaisionally, you must put your hands in the water - unless you're skunked.

Simms are great, chotas are too extra pairs are the real key. Include a pair of ragg wool or goretex to walk to the river.

Simms windstopper gloves and hat are the best. Throw in the same vest and jacket and you will be warm. Also, the more fish you hook the warmer you feel! ;D

Aaron I am online as well here. You beat me to it. Simms Gortex Windstopper fleece fingerless gloves are, as Torrey says, spot on ;D Keep my fingers and hands nice and toasty

P.S Their Winstopper fleece hats are great to. I own 2.

Cabelas makes nice anti wind fleece gloves too that are far less expensive than the Simms. also for those whose feet get cold, two things: 1) Size up on winter boots. Sometimes with extra socks and all crammed into a pair of boots the blood flow is restricted which is a big no no. 2) Try those sock and foot warmer packs that work just like hand pocket warmers. They have adhesive on them to stick to a pair of liner socks. Put one on top of your toes and one below your toes. I promise you you will feel the difference.
