My next rod purchase

Got to fish a Sage 99 4wt last weekend. AWSOME rod!! Roll casting and mending an indicator, shot and flies even at distance was effortless!! Only draw back... $700!! I would by a 10ft Greys in a heartbeat if it indicator fishes like the Sage99!! So I'm torn. But the Greys, or save some money for the Sage. Someone please help!!

I have personally never fished the Sage, but the Greys throws the Euro rig and Indi just fine. I would save the 400.00 bucks !!!

Thats great news to hear!! Now i just have to decide on which weight to get. I know alot of people use the 3wt for euro only. But ALL of my fishing will be indi fishing nymphs with this rod. So indicator, couple nymphs, and some shot. The 4wt and 5wt are only 0.03oz. difference in weight. So that is not a concerne to me. But leaning toward the 4wt.

I got the 10' 4 wt, definitely a solid rod. I've fought some pretty big fish on it, and it handles them pretty well. The softer tip really makes a difference when playing fish with smaller tippets. That extra foot over my other rods is fantastic for all styles of nymphing. I love hearing people say that a 10' rod is too long for most rivers, and I beg to differ. Casts very nice, although I almost exclusively nymph fish with this rod as well, so mostly its the old chuck-and-duck lob nymph rig cast, haha.

I own the 99 and have fished both rods the Sage is so much better IMHO its lighter you can Euro indi ,dry fly fish with it to me it is a much better all around rod . Besides lobing flies on mono I found the greys lack when your fly line comes to play . Yes it is more money but you get what you pay for .
