I love Borger's "Designing Trout Flies". All of the patterns in that book are as good today as 20 yrs ago. And he has a great chapter on impressionism vs imitation. I will look forward to his new book.
I had dinner with Gary and Nancy last night and received a copy of Gary's latest book, Fishing The Film. I've said in the past that one of the best books on fly fishing was Gary's Presentation, which has been out of print for years. Copies are available at premium prices.
There is currently a Limited Edition on Ebay for $2000.00
I have something a lot cheaper and in more detail; that is the first volume of Gary's 20 volume set on fly fishing. The first volume is on fishing the film, that transitional few mms when an emerger becomes a dry fly. I was a copy reader for the the manuscript and didn't have the photos and illustrations that are in the final copy.
I believe this book is the single best book on the subject. It will be a book you will not only read but study. It is that good. Expect a review in Fly Fish America and look for the book in the stores soon. It is a hard cover that retails for $24.95. It should be in every serious fly fisher's library. Don't just put it on the shelf, but read and study it, and use the techniques that Gary describes. It will make you a better fly fisher.

I have presentation and its a very good book one of the best I have ever read on the subject. I cant believe its fetching such high prices. The lowest I saw was $200ish. Looking forward to the new book..he is one of the better authors I have read on fly fishing.
Thanks Silver. It sounds very good by your description. I will keep an eye out for it. I emailed him about the Presentation book asking if it would ever go back into print. He said its possible but couldn't say for sure. I would like to get a copy of it. Sherpa want to sell? How about you Frank M ? I know you got a copy from Davy.
Just ordered Fishing the Film. I also checked out Presentation. Its running around $200. for a copy thats in good shape on Amazon or ebay. Pretty good staying power for a book that went for $35.00 in 1995.
Might be exactly what I need to keep from getting my butt kicked on the Big D next season. Nothing worse than watching a 24in+ Brown sippping 10ft in front of you and he just laughs off your entire arsenal. Humbling............. I'll never forget that fish.
Sorry Bob, Davy sold me an autograph copy last year at a great price. . It is one of those books you have to read over and over and learn something new every time. I am definately going to get the new one too!. I hope you get a chance to get a copy of Presentation.
Ha ha Frank. You know I had corresponded with Davy about that book but you pulled the trigger before me. I'm a little slow. Lol. Silver may be right about the new Borger book series being more comprehensive than his past classic "Presentation" You can purchase the entire 20 book package for about $500. It will itself be a classic down the road. I just bought the first one for now to see how it is.
are they shipping it yet...i was under the impression that it wasnt quite done yet...did you order directly from GB
Yeah Presentation is a book that you pull out here and there and read and learn somthing that you probably hadnt completely thought through before...its awesome...lots of formulas and recipes and just good advice in it...its worth $200 but I am not selling
Yes I think it was from the Borger site. I paid $5.00 for shipping but I didn't pay attention to when it will be shipped. Good question. However what ever it is I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
