Cinco De Mayo... Euro Nymphing Blowout!

Tom and I headed to the Catskills after we got out of work. We were able to get there by 5 and were on the water shortly thereafter. The fishing was slow, well one every 10-12 casts in the beginning. Then all hell broke loose! It was a fish every other cast or even at times consecutive casts!

We were upstream euro nymphing with stoneflies and micro nymphs. I tried a new caddis pattern that worked so well that I didn't bather using it after it took a few fish! Here are a few photos. I landed one monster, which was over 20" and for this section is a huge fish.

What is a good resource for patterns of micro nymphs? I not really sure what they look like and can't find much info on them. Thanks bro

A micro nymph is any nymph that's a size 16 or smaller. Most of mine are some variation of a hares ear or pt. Micro nymph just sounds sexy

Also, play around with flourescent thread collars. They can make a huge difference at times. The stream that you frequent would not be the best place for flourescent hot spots though, as the flow is gentle in many areas.

Micro nymph sure does sound sexy,,sounds like a whole new type of pattern. I'v been doing more and more of the short line Polish nymphing and i think im starting to get a handle on it. As for last saterday it kind of sucks but we never made it up there. Brian overslept and I wound up just going to the spot for a few hours but Brian went up to the rescia falls the next day and stoped at the upper section of the that stream briefly. So its still on the list for another day, I heard from a guy at work that the lower section behind that resterant and down fishes really really well in the fall. Im sure you can imagine why so make a note of that and fish it in the fall if you haven't allready. Let me know if you have any free time over memorial day weekend I have off friday and monday that weekend,
