Good for you. Is it possible for you to post a picture of a pile of the size 32 flies next to a reference, like a coin? Thank you! You are ambitious to land such fish on tiny flies. This represents yet another frontier for fishing.
Hi everyone sorry about the late post I was able to spend the late morning and early afternoon in the tma yesterday and the world of the day was midge. I had a lot of hookup's and was able to land five of them. The biggest was a sixteen incher on a size 32 gray midge. It amazed me that I was able to bring that fish to the net. The rest of the fish ranged from 11 inches to 14 inches. It was nice to see so the river alive and healthy.

HI alanb I will as soon as I get a camera
I have some size 30 TMC 501's. They look to be about 1.5 mm long.
No way, Jose'. 24 and maby 26 by the end of summer That's dry fly fishing at its best for me using anything 24 and higher with a 16 plus trout.
It is just realy sad when you take the time to post some thing and some people just do not want to beleave you .I did not say that I landed a monster just one fish on a very small hook. You should try it some time . Bye the way it is a tiemco 518 !
you are right a 501 goes down to a size 24 I think. I spent a good amount of time fishing tiny flies like that. Ill tell you what... its tough keeping the fish on the lie with hooks that small.
10x its ok to use hooks like that in the Farmington. The water is cool and the trout can recover after the fight, provided that they are released properly. Also, you are always going to find people who don't believe you. When someone does not believe me I look at it as a good thing... at least they won't be trying to use the same fly or fishing the same location or using the same technique. ;D
Excuse my writing, I meant that with my visual acuity and fly fishing habits still demand that I visually see the dry fly I present. Going with the smallest of flies is the most challenging way to fly fish.
Yeah I usually trailed mine behind a larger (20) dry fly. Sometimes its fun to try something different. I used to fish the Little Lehigh in Allentown and try to see how small a fly I could catch trout on. It was a "small fly" phase. I did catch a decent amount of fish on size 32s though. Un-neccesary but fun.
