thanks for posting. A popular mis-conception with a lot of folks is that you need a spey rod to spey cast. I spent Columbus Day fishing with a Pulaski local who spent the better part of the day teaching me how to make that cast one-handed. One of the best days I ever had on the water, real generous with his time and knowledge of the river. Made a real impact with me.

My friend Simon can single hand Spey cast like no ones business...

Thats right it is the cast and not the rod, all be it was related to use of DH fly rods for Atlantic Salmon fishing in Scotland.

If you can do a correct roll cast, you can learn to spey cast with your fly rod. once you can do it "you'll be able to boldly go where no man has gone before." this is my favorite video of single hand casting:
