    Starter Equipment

    Hey Predator,

    Can you suggest some equipment for someone starting out in fly-fishing. Also, any recommendations on equipment for kids (age 6). Thanks!!!

    I would go with for dad a tfo pro 8ft 5wt, with a tfo reel.
    for the little one a reddington red start 7ft 4wt.

    those are really good start up suggestions. the next suggestion would be to take the kid to a place where they will catch fish. i know that they do fishing education classes at the trout hatchery. they teach you a little about fly fishing and then they take you to a pond with a good amount of large trout. these two things are perfect for a beginner or kid alike. also dont be afraid to let him or her spin fish. we do a lot of trips during the summer for small mouth bass in ct and the kids love fishing with spinning tackle. remember, when they are young you want to get them into fishing and the often means making sure that they catch fish.
