    Re: Fly Tying Challenge

Ok, here is my submission, its nothing ground breaking, just a variation on one of my favorite patterns. At the start of this this I wanted to do something off the wall but these materials just scream streamer to me, and I don't have enough extra time right now to tie something I'm not sure will catch fish, this pattern definitely will. The pattern is a woolly sculpin with a twist. The main difference from other woolly sculpins I have seen and tied previously is the light colored ice dub body, with the dark back, which creates a nice contrast, and is similar to the real deal as all sculpins have a light belly.

    Here is the recipe:

    Tail: Olive Marabou
Ribbing: Ultra wire (used copper brown here) over Ginger Saddle hackle
Body: Ice Dub UV Lt. Yellow
Back: Olive Marabou (tied in towards tip so that it is easier to separate tailing and back material)
Collar and head: Dark Olive Deer Hair.

Here's mine...black marabou tail with a little flash. Olive Ice Dub picked out with olive hackle. Deer hair wing with a peice of black pheasant tail tied in on top. Nothing fancy but I like it.
