Try the improved clinch knot or the davy knot. They both work for me when using Flouro flex plus.
Okay folks...here is the scenario....historically use a clinch knot for tying on flies...but I am finding that I am losing flies and fish with the knot pulling through. Anyone else experience this?
I am trying a different knot on my upcoming ventures to see if it makes a difference.
Try the improved clinch knot or the davy knot. They both work for me when using Flouro flex plus.
I also use the Davy and the improved clinch, with no problems. I firmly believe that sometimes the weather (especially low humidity) affects the knots. Old tippet material definitely affects the knots. If you are having the same problems with a new tippet spool, make sure you are tying the knots correctly and snugging them down properly.
Ive had problems with knots and flouro in general. I probably am not tying the greatest knots in the world but I definitely do not have issues with mono. I think in general that flouro is slightly stiffer and more brittle than mono so on the final cinch down...you have to be careful. That being said...I've been leaving the flouro out of the vest for the last yr...and have not caught any less fish...in fact...Im catching way more thanks to some new techniques and some good info Im getting to share here on Trout Predator...I am however going through a spool of 6x every two weeks...not a bad thing but the catch rate has skyrocketed on the 6x vs. 5x for me and the difference in breaking strength isnt really a factor for me...Im losing a fish if he throws the fly or if some knot in my sytem is breaking...plus I hate paying 10 bucks for a 25yrd spool...call me cheap its ok...
What knots are you using with the FC. And is the knot breaking at the hook eye point.
There is no doubt that FC is not as shock resistant as mono, and there are times you will get some bad spools.
Last year l had spool of 5x that was worthless myself, it probably broke at 1lb BS.
At least you are catching fish and that is the name of the game, as we all did before FC came onto the scene and those before did with gut.
Davy.
clinch knot, surgeons knot, I cant remember how to tie the davy knot onstream...even though it is devastatingly simple when I look at diagrams...just need to focus and practice it..
Sherpa,
If you like mono, check out this stuff.
I can't buy tippet spools, but can load onto smaller spools if necessary.
Damyl Tectan
I have not tried their newest product (the Plus) but have been really happy with their original line.
If the line ain't tight, ya ain't doin it right
Tectan is a great mono, it is the same as the original Platil strong.
Go to the Cabelas catalogue, so far as l know they are the only company that offers all the sizes, which is available in odd sizes over and above 2/3/4/5/6/7 Lb BS.
Davy.
Cool thanks for the info..never heard of it but I think I will give it a try..
I have an old spool of 4x and a size 10 fly on the desk. Going to just commit the davy knot to muscle memory now. I have had the FC give at the hook eye...and unravel. I am going to use some frog's hair that I have in my chest pack on saturday instead of the rio.....all about experimentation.
