Large Net

I am looking for a net I can use for steelhead/salmon. I would like one I can carry on my back. Any ideas?

Many of us use the Brodin Pere Marquette. The handle fits comfortably in your wading belt and the net stays put.

I second the Brodin. It's not inexpensive but its the best large net. I also tell people to get one because if you don't and you lose a giant fish you will be kicking your own ass :

for catch and release it is kind of hard to land steelhead or salmon with a net , if you are by yourself . a fish cradel is a better idea all togeather if you are fishing with someone .they are easier to put the fish in and less stressful on them ,then a net !!! for trout a large net is best !I made my own and it is nicer then the brodin it isnt as wide but it will handle any trout up to five pounds .it is less bulky then the brodin .It wasnt hard to do either !you can find instrutions on how to do it on the net it is fun to do and you can be proud of your own net ! any questions just shoot them my way i know where to get all the supplies .

The Brodin Pere Marquette is a great net, and an invaluable tool. It is ideal for GREAT LAKES fishing. They are available in different color tones, all of which are very attractive. Net weight is quite light. Alain and I both did a review of this net in TPO reviews if you want to read more. Other nets, which are metal are awkward to carry and unmanageable in my opinion. Other wooden nets I've seen can't take the stress of big fish like the Brodins do. The bag is deep, which can capacitate both Salmon and Steelhead.

That was a beauty of a king. Very fresh - but it looks like it's only half in the bag! I know how big that Brodin net is so that gives a great scale as to the size of that fish.

My brother has one. Sometimes I wish it had a longer handle, though, especially when I'm on the verge of landing a large steelie...

You're right, it is a great steelhead net. It can handle almost any freshwater fish around these parts, save the odd muskie or large pike.

Hopefully I'm going to have Jamie McAllister build me a large long handled net, but I'm not sure if he's still building nets.

I will try to post a picture of my net it is such an ordell to do on here I only have a picture phone but illdo my best .I still think fish cradels are a better idea ,im planning on making those out of two wood handles with the net in the middle so you can roll it up and just have it behind you .I think netting large fish is fine if you are going to take them home .the 22lb atlantic is proof right there that you should use a cradel it is half in the bag and half out .play time landing that fish with the net you might as well have beached him unless someelse was with you .Plus itis a salmon and they taste good .I dont mean to argue but im just trying to prove a point .Ive talked to alot of guides here in the northwest and they all agree a fish cradel is the way to go .most dont even use a net unless the fish is being brought home .
