    best knots ?

what do you guys like to use for knots . Lets say for making a perfection loop to attach a leader ,or for a up turned eye hook ,or a down turned eye . I think it would be interesting to hear what knots you guys like to use for different situations . I know alot of you use different tippet systems for chezch then wet flys ,do you use differenyt knots ?

    Tippet knot: Triple Surgeons
Tippet to fly: clinch, improved clinch and Davy knot
Loop to loop: Perfection and Triple Surgeons
    Dropper knot: Triple Surgeons
Fly line to butt section: nail knot

I have very few knot failures. I use Rio Fluroflex and P-Line Halo FC. For steelhead, I used 2 and 3X Rio Fluoroflex.

I tried the rio flour flex I think it is ok but i can see room for improvement especially when it is so damn expensive .I have to look up the davy knot ,I like the turle knot for up turn eyes ,and improved clinch for most anything else !
Do you find the triple surgens to be better then the perfection knot?

The Surgeon's End Loop is stronger than the Perfection Loop, but the Perfection is much less bulky. If you are tying a loop in the butt end of a leader to attach it to your fly line, or if you have a piece of heavy mono Nail Knotted to the end of your fly line and want a loop in it, use the Perfection Loop, it will pass thru the guides much more easily. And when you are tying that it 50# test, it doesn't matter if its only a 70% break strength knot.

If you need maximum strength in a loop knot, such as a loop in your tippet to attach it to a loop on the end of your leader, then use the much stronger Surgeon's End Loop. In this situation, you are tying it is a smaller diameter material that creates less bulk, and it won't be going into the guides either.

Like Alain & Aaron, I've been using the Davy Knot for a good year or so so far, and I have to say it holds up amazingly well. It seems strong, ties in about 5 seconds, makes a tiny almost invivisible knot, and uses up almost no line to make it (that is important when you change flies tied on short dropper tags so as not to "eat them up" and have to constantly re-do them).

I also prefer a Triple Surgeon's Knot for tying tippet to leader, it's strong.

There is another tippet to leader knot that is popular in Europe, its called the Water Knot or Double Grinner- supposedly a very strong connection. I haven't tried it yet.

on the end of my sink tip there is about five inches of 40# mono it has a double line loop in it ,I attach about two feet of leader to that .Im going to try out the surgeons knot for the loop to loop connection then use a turel knot on my fly ,or a rapala knot . That sounds to be the best set up for this deal thanks for the help guys !!!1
