Redington CPS 9' 6wt (My New Bass fishing Rod!!

Well I got my new rod yesterday I got a great deal on the Rod at Indiana Angler In Indiana PA. This rod has been discontinued so i really got a steal. I must say this rod is fa very fast action rod which should allow me to cast my big bass bugs without a problem. I Did skimp a little on the Reel and got a Ross Flywater reel. It really is not a bad reel and i am sure it will work fine for large and smallmouth bass. I will let you guys know what I really think of it once I get the line wet this year. Also for know it is going to double as my Erie Tribs steelhead rod this year.

    Flyfisher,

Nice, I used to use a 9ft 7wt redington crosswater for bass. It's a cheaper rod, but I put my bass rods through hell and back so it was the right thing to get (for me anyway). As for the reel I used an old cabelas CSR, (it's discontinued now) but most of the time I find myself not even using the reel for bass that much. Redington makes a very fast action rod which I don't particularly care too much for while trout fishing, but it makes a great bass rod.

Well the Back yard test did really confirm that it is a real cannon. i think i need to use a 7wt Line on it to really load this road up better. Its action is very similar to my XP so I know i will love this rod.

    Kyle,

I agree i have never got too many bass to the reel but this year i am going to be hitting a few ponds that have some Bass in the 5 pound range. If I am lucky enough to hook into one of them then I might need to use the reel. That and I will be using this rod for Small Mouth on the Clarion River as well.

    Flyfisher,

I agree, if you hook a five pounder you better hold on for dear life and be glad you have a good reel ;D I've had a few that size (out of resivoirs that I shoulden't be in) and let me tell you they are a fun and powerful fish.

    good luck

lol, my friends and I pull out bass in the 6-7 pound range sometimes, no lie. But those were on spinning rods (yes I do use spinning rods once in a while).

Oh dont worry I use my spinning rods too. The one place that is stocked with trout has a habbit of growing a few Bass in the 8+ range but there are hard to got out of there due to not being aloud to have boats on the water.
