    Re: Managing problem forum members

Aaron loves my "Cheers!" signoff. I should have trade marked it!

In matters like this I would stick to the Mission Statement notice on the bottom of the site.

Just keep hammering that this site is for the dissemination of information and friendly exchange, and that it clearly says on every page that ill will and venom will not be tolerated as it is on other sites.

I think that helps us keep the upper hand and with "being the bigger person", a sort of stick to business approach.

I think engaging with him in long diatribes is exactly what he is looking for, if we give it to him, he has already won, even if he is convincingly outmatched in the argument. No answer is the best answer. Just stick to addressing the issue with warnings via email or pm that cite the "Notice" and leave it alone, and if the person keeps going, just ban them.

My mother always said, and it's the best advice she gave me:

    "Be the bigger man"

I think that rings completely true here.

Well Nicked has been officially fired here. However, with that being said we all know he will try to get friends/etc to join. Losers like this are tough to get rid of.

Its funny how he e mails me expecting me to argue back. I have too much to do to deal with his shit. I guess that shop is not too busy and therefore he has nothing better to do. Its people with ideas like his that make fly fishing suck if you want my "humble" opinion he isn't much better than a pile of dog shit. I am sure he made up the story about swinging streamers in the cold weather. Imagine walking into the store there and having the person who is supposed to help you denounce everything that youy say !

You guys did a great job, thanks for keeping things locked down while I was away. I appreciate it. I upped all the new content. GREAT JOB. I will email you the logo to put at the end of the content and make sure you mark the beginning with the month you want it to be for. If we want to do multiple in a month just put Jan. tip of the month number 2.

    But seriously, great job.

We should really use that front page, if you get new content up on YouTube just call or email me and I will get it up on the front page right away. Direct people to our front page instead of YouTube if you have the choice, I really want to utilize that as our "Content Page"

    Hugs for all!

I think nuking Nick was absolutely the right thing to do and completely within Aaron's right as the owner of this website.

Some people just like to stir up trouble because they thrive on being negative, for whatever abberant reason. They must get off on getting so much attention. Really, who gives a shit, it's fishing. I think this person would have continued to be a problem. Nip it in the bud, I say and I couldn't agree with Aaron's decision more.

I think it was only a matter of time (and not much for that matter) before he would have gotten himself banned. It is unfortunate however, because he obviously is a person that could have made positive contributions to the forum (witness his Hendrickson post), but he is also a person who likes to stir the pot and had an axe to grind with Dejon, a person who has been nothing but an asset & a nice guy. It's unfortunate, because I know his name and apparently he is well known & respected in the world of traditional FF for Steelhead. I'm sure he's a very good fisherman, but it doesn't matter when you bring that negative vibe along with the ride. I prob would have given him a little more rope before banning him, but I'm sure in the end he would have hung himself. I like what Juice said about being the bigger man & just pasting our mission statement into replies to make it clear what we are all about. I realize some forums thrive on heated debates, but that is not what we are about, it gets way too sticky & messy. The positive atmosphere, non-judgmental nature, and sharing of good information are the hallmarks of this website.
