Taxidermy: an alternative for fish mounting

Wasn't sure where to put this exactly, but figured it may be of use to some.

For those who catch that "monster", what is needed to recreate it in a mounting WITHOUT keeping the fish. I've heard that if you take measurements (ie. Lenght and Width), and supply a good colored photograph(s) really capturing the fish's beautiful features, that a reproduction can be made.

Thats it man, thats all you need. I have skin mounts and they loose value over the years where as a good glass mount will be an investment that will appreciate. Take good close ups of any strange or unique markings they can put them on the mount as well. Good luck, BH

I have both here at my home.

Replica mounts are something like twice or more the cost of a skin mount, and way more for the larger species.

Regardless if it be a skin or a replica mount, the art work is the deal here. I have seen some awful examples of fish taxidermy to day the least.

If any of you guys choose to pay for a mount, make darn sure the taxidermist doe's first class airbrush work.

******Remember to keep the fish in the water as much as possible****


the fish... head/body/tail.....

Markings....

get some nice head shot..

Maybe even turn the fish to snap a picture or two of the other side.

If you find the right guy to do a mount.. the more picture (details) the better the fish..
