    Wet Flies on the WB

Has anyone had good results fishing wet flies on the West Branch?

Had a solid day nymphing the WB, so I can't complain about the day. A bit before sunset the bug factory started churning out Sulfurs, March Browns, Grey Foxes, and a few Green Drakes….pretty much everything was around at once and fish were splashing all over the place.

I knew the MBs and Sulfurs would be around, so I tied up some winged MB wets and some yellow Invictas. I had a number of fish refuse them, fishing upstream, across, and downstream methods from Davy's video.

I'm still very much a novice with wet flies, but I've had some success on local streams and the Beaverkill (common variable, stocking).

I'm definitely attributing this to my skill, but I'm curious how others have fared. Any suggestions for a good Sulfur wet fly would be greatly appreciated.

Sidenotes: Drift boats on the WB @ <350cfs, sadface. Seeing Bald Eagles on Memorial Day, awesome.

Agree with you about the driftboats. Kind of ridiculous to have them scraping by at such a low flow. Fortunately there aren't too many guides doing that.

I do really well with imitative soft hackles there. During a spinner fall the Galloups sunk spinner in the right size and color can be deadly!

Thanks for the advice! I had only tried winged wets, I will tie on some soft hackles (and tie up some sunk spinners) next trip.

i have had a lot of luck searching with wets on the wb. a brace of 2-3 wets swung have worked great even from a drift boat (with a bit of back paddling) fished to the banks and swung out like you may fish a streamer has been deadly.
