Got to the Housy at about 5:30 pm on Fri. Had solid fishing for the first hour and a half! Landed many nice rainbows and a bunch of stocker rainbows. The action slowed around 7 but after landing in excess of one dozen trout I called it quits. I went to a popular dry fly spot to find a guide having a rough outing. I explained how low water shifts the trout around and after walking up the pool and spotting a trout rising I picked the "lucky" fly and his client got the skunk off his back! Kind of like winning the game in overtime!
Saturday I floaed the river with Bryan. He lived in Boston but stays with relatives near the stream. His wife said since he was blanked in his previous 6 times to the river that she purchased him a guide trip. It was a good idea. We didn't land many fish but he learned a ton of new stuff. The kicker is that the last spot came up in the clutch! He landed a 20 inch brown trout at the last drop of the anchor! He was excited to say the least. I will try to get his pic up tomorrow. The girlfriend messed up her knee so I am doing the "nice guy thing" :
Sunday moring I took Fster out for a float down the river. What a difference a day makes! Many, many trout were netted today! !8 was the total. Including MANY holdover brown trout up to 17 inches. We also had numerous holdover bows as well. One was 19 inches! We lost some as well... you can't help it those bows fight like mad!
The flies that were hatching were BWO's in various sizes from 18-22, light cahills, sulphers, isonychia, brown drakes, all sorts of caddis and march browns. It was an insect factory on Friday night... much improved from a few weeks ago!
Get up there soon before it warms up!
