I had the great pleasure of fishing the Hous in Massachusetts this afternoon with Aaron. Imagine, early May, and me with my winter Simms windstopper hat on - it was that cold, low 40s and misting. Poor Aaron, with leaky waders and all, shivering the whole time - but tough as nails...fishing through the pain.

The fishing is outstanding there! A great mix of stocked and wild browns (about 4:1). The stockies were all fat and strong, the wild browns colorful and super strong, even the 9 inchers. The average stock fish was 12-16in, all of the two-year old variety. The best wild brown (caught) was a gorgeous 14 in that Aaron took. CT DEP, are you listening?

Wondering about the title of my post? Let me tell you a story. In the movie "Jaws," after seeing the beast for the first time, Brody turns around white as a ghost and says that memorable line. We had a similar experience today! At the last spot we fished, I had my head down re-rigging and I heard the most tremendous splash upstream where Aaron was. I looked up and he turned to me while slowly backing out of the riffle and said "Holy &$%*, did you see that?" Aaron had stepped in to the monster's lair and saw the beast. Definitely not a beaver, not a carp, but a monstrous wild brown upwards of 30 inches!!!! Aaron's face was blank and white.

We were sort of afraid to be standing in that riffle! What a great day. Thanks Aaron - we'll be back to get that beast one way or another.
