Tuesday I floated the river with my friend Andy. We found fish in almost every spot that we fished. We caugth all our steelhead on egg patterns fished under strike indicators. NO BAITYou can get them on the fly rod
I was using a two handed rod. This made the mending and the longer drifts much easier than a 10 foot rod could. Actually you can "get them good". You just need to know where they sit, understand the fish's behavior and how they react to fishing pressure (right Loren?), and learn to understand a fish that no one can understand ;D. The fish were holding in almost every possible water type. Some were in winter lies, some were in transitional water and some on gravel spawning. However, the ones that we caught were in some pretty heavy current. Double digit catches were had on the first few days! The last day started late. Got to the LFZ and had a bunch on, The guys from Maine had me blocked out! Went down river and landed 2 before quitting. Not too bad for a few hours out. March is a tough month and today proved it. The spot I fished down river was a top producer meaning 8 or more fish this winter only produced 2 hooked and landed. Also, I know that there were more fish there. The previous day we saw a good amount there. I guess the fish have more important things to do.
Bring on the dropbacks ;D
