I think a great first step would be for all anglers to get rid of felt soled wading shoes and for states to make laws against the use of felt soles. Simms makes aquastealth, this is a non-porous surface so therefore no spores can find their way into the material. They make it with and without spikes. I think its time for us to look into getting pairs of these.
Also, people who are taking boats in and out of affected stated should have to get their boat cleaned at an approved placed before traveling over state lines. If they have water from the affected river all they are doing is tranporting the weeds "knowingly" to another state. This is much like that places that the NYCDEP has for the boats in their reservoirs.
I think that doing two things would be a great start to trying to end this stuff. After all spreading Didymo to another river after knowing the river that you have come from in contaminated is bio terrorism.
