Lately I'v been trying out multiple fly rigs with nymphing and wet flies. Davey's "cast of flies" has produced a phenomal number of hits, but rhe hook up rate at least for me has been somewhat to be desired. Most hits are occuring on the end of an across and down
swing, a straight downstream drift at any time, and a surprising rate on the retrieve by
swinging the flies laterally as I bring them in. I'm wondering how to tweak my game with regards to detection and set I'm using the prescribed palm twist retrieve on the dangle
with bitten lip anticipation, always in touch with fore finger and thumb. In terms of the set
I'm doing the ol'e One Tousand One and a 1/2 when using a standard pinch set or no count and a slip set. Even tried a strike set just for kicks, but I thinlk that's really for larger
fish and streamers. My guess is it's timing and practice as usual, but since it's off the top
there are adjustments to be made. Any Tips out there ?
