That is a great looking pattern and simple to tie.

I think most people tie their larva patterns to fat. Less is more.

that is a cool fly and very deadly looking !I wounder if it smells bad ,you know silent but deadly ,I hate when that happens with your waders on ! Oh wait you said, simple but deadly, not silent ,damn I just pasted wind ,got to go ,later .

You should have them from an 8-14. Trout love those green larvae. Loren's pattern for that nymph works quite well. Try magic shrimp foil for the back as well. Sometimes a bit of flash makes the difference in that pattern. I also like dubbed hot spots.

it very much depends on the river. 10 in some 14 or 16 in others if tied correctly like loren's if its fat(like most of us tye) then you need to do an 18. that particular pattern will cover more than the rhyachophila too. that is a really well tied fly the proportions are spot on. I agree for most of us we overdress our flys...think of all the beat up flys that kept on catching fish that one day....hmmm there was probably a little fur and thread and the hackle was unwinding or the tail was gone but it was still banging fish..

Would this be considered "slim" or "sleek" as I see advertised for the czech nymphs? Lead or no lead I guess is the differance but which is what?

The material for Lorens Ryac is the masterclass SLF l developed for the Ryac. It was the color that Oliver Edwards chose also for his larva featured in his Masteclass tying publication.

Let me just tell you this guys, l screwed around in my fish tanks with live larva and many blends of color shades to end up with this color.
There will be variations related to age class of the larva and particular river/stream they are found, but not by much.
often as not the success of fishing these patterns is to present them the right way to the fishes eye.
