Free Fly Tying Clinics at HRO

We are offering free Fly Tying instruction at Housatonic River Outfitters on Saturdays this Winter at 9AM- classes typically run about 3 hours, give or take. Bring a vise, basic tools & thread, we will provide the hooks & materials. Anyone past the beginner stage is welcome to attend these. This Saturday, January 5th, Harold will do "Glass Bead Flies", and next Saturday I (Torrey) will do "Great Lakes Steelhead & Brown Trout Flies". If you have questions call 860-672-1010 or email hflyshop@aol.com. We are well stocked with materials & hooks for your Winter fly tying needs, and carry many excellent fly tying books. Look on our website www.dryflies.com under the River Report for Cornwall and look at the top of the Comments for more info on upcoming classes. We are also offering the first Nymph Clinic of '08 with Aaron on Saturday, March 1st- clinic runs 9AM-1PM and the cost is $75. Book now before it fills up.

I attended a bunch of these clinics last year, and one so far this year. I'm a real fan. They offer a great opportunity to sharpen tying skills and learn some new patterns from skilled tiers, to be sure. However, the freewheeling discussions about fishing strategies, the qualities of different rivers, and the chance to be relentlessly teased by the proprietor and his consigliere are what make these sessions a real blast. Plus, you get coffee and donuts. What's not to like?

Great Lakes Steelhead & Brown Trout Flies

I'm doing another free tying clinic this Saturday, 1/12 at 9AM:

"Great Lakes Steelhead & Brown Trout Flies"

    - all are welcome, as long as you have at least a basic knowledge of fly tying. Hope to see some of you TPO guys. You can also pick my brain about anything to do with that fishery- I did a stint up there as a guide right after I graduated college.

I'm doing a Beginner Fly Tying Course the first weekend in March, both Saturday & Sunday for $75 (for both days).

Sounds like an awesome clinic, one that has special interest to me ;D! If I'm around I'd love to attend. I just viewed one on the HRO page. . .looked like a lot of fun and a chance to learn a whole lot up close.
