Supposedly manasquan has sea run brown trout. They're some what if a unicorn though.
Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody knew of any decent fly fishing rivers/streams in monmouth county. Thanks in advance for your help. Its tough when all of the more well known rivers are at a minimum 1:15 minutes away. I would like to get out more during the week after work so I'm looking for something a little closer. But i don't know if there is anyting around here. Also would be easier on the weekends instead of driving for a total of 2 and a half hours. I live by freehold if that helps.
Like I said thanks in advance for the advice.

The Toms River has a TCA and I have heard that it's not too bad, just a little small.
I remember when I was a kid a guy caught a really nice sea run fish. You hear about them getting one every so often, so your unicorn analogy is good!
How did you make out? I know they also did the fall stocking.
Aaron,
Thanks for the response. I would definitely like to try out Toms River also, I did not know they had a TCA. I was going to try the Manasqan first (probably Saturday morning or Friday afternoon). But Toms River is pretty close also so Im going to google map it and see where I can access it. Thanks for the heads up, I will definitely come back and report. Glad my buddy turned me on to this site. Appreciate all the input.

fish the section that goes thru allaire state park..not many guys and u can catch very large numbers of sea run browns..
This is going back a while, but I remember as a kid riding my bike to a stream in Tinton Falls that had trout; probably stocked. Maybe it's still being stocked. That was the first time I fly fished I was probably a freshman in high school, about 35 years ago. Worth checking out maybe.
Went to the Manasquan River on Friday no luck. Water was very muddy and i was getting snagged a lot. I think I will check out the Toms River next maybe will have more luck there.
I did hit up the Gorge on Saturday and got a nice sized brook trout on a bead head flashback prince nymph. Talked to a guy who was killing it on an olive wooly bugger.
Anyone know if the Manasquan is productive throughout the winter? I got bored and went there a week or two ago and man, those briars are tough on the legs (and waders). I did find some nice real nice-looking water, although most of it is tough to get to. No fish, but I considered it a good prospecting day.
Go for those searuns!
