    Caddis pupa patterns

I hope this thread will serve a couple purposes. First, I wanted to hear from everyone what their favorite caddis pupa patterns are. After my recent success, I might have to go with the Bird of Prey. Second, and this is directed at the Predator but anyone can chime in, I fished one day in May with a pupa pattern Aaron gave me that was like a tannish cream color, no bead and looked like it had horns. Wondering if anyone knows what that pattern is, or perhaps Aaron would like to divulge. Third, I'd like to know if anyone uses Fox's Poopah and what they think of it. Thanks! Feel free wo say anything about caddis pupa you like. I'd love this thread to be chock full of caddis info.

I bet the predator will agree, the discussion begins and ends with the LaFontaine Deep or Emergent Sparkle Pupa. There is also a simplified version on p. 51 of "the book," that I think Nymphmeister uses.

All other pupa patterns are just pretenders.

    Re: Caddis pupa patterns

Alain speaks the truth, the LaFontaine pattern is nothing short of deadly. I've been using a simplified pupa that I modified from Borger's book "Designing Trout Flies", and it's also deadly and can be tied in about 2-3 minutes. Played around with a glass bead version of it yesterday on the Farmington and was very happy with the results- it clearly outfished everything else we tried.
