Re: Help Choosing a Nyphing Rod

    Dave,
They are not really comparable. The Hardy Marksman is a Cardiac and the Streamflex is the Chevy. Is the Chevy a good car? Yes. But when you ride in the Cadillac you know the difference.

The ten foot four weight Marksman is much more responsive than the Greys. The flex point of the rod is higher up near the tip. Where as the Greys is closer to the middle. Now if were were Comparing the Greys in the same configuration, the actions are quite similar, the main difference would be that the Hardy Marksman is a slight bit more responsive, which means that it dampens more quickly when flexed. This is why I think it keeps the hooks in the fish so well. There is no wiggle.

Thanks for the info. If I had done my homework (aka ask the people who are really in the know), I would have spent the extra dough and gotten the Marksman.... This is one of the things that makes TPO such a great site.

Davy and others on this site are fortunate to get to try out all of the rod choices and steer people in the right direction. In m opinion there is nothing worse than shoveling out some dough to find out that the rod or any other product isn't what it was cracked up to be. That's why I stick with the Greys and Hardy rods. They fit the bill nicely and they can be used for much more than just fishing weighted nymphs.

Picked up the Hardy last night......really nice. Took tow nice rainbows just before dark. The rod handled beautifully.....Thanks to everyone for their insight and suggestions.
