    Re: SAGE Z AXIS

at the Somerset Fly Fishing show, I cast a bunch of different rods. I've heard a few nightmares about Winston rods, so I didn't cast them. I cast a couple of Scott fly rods, nothing terribly memorable about them.

I cast a Zero Gravity... I loved it. It was a nice light rod, great action (fished tip flex rods), and was very very impressed with it. I was told to go fish a Z-Axis after I fished that... The Z-Axis blew it out of the water. Light is one thing, but light in the right spot is another. When you pick up the rod, it's not as light as the Zero-G, but it was so much more substancial when you cast it. I bought one right away. I'm working on getting my hands on another one soon.

    I wish I cast a TCR, but I didn't.

    Re: SAGE Z AXIS

I have cast the Z-Axix rods in 3,4,5 & 6 wt. They are softer than the XP and slightly lighter in swing weight.

At this time I would not trade in any of my XP rods for the new Z-Axis,,,,,,well I did have a duplicate 690-4 XP that was sold off towards a 5110-4 Z-Axis. The new Sage switch rods are unique in factory rods however, they have been arround for years with custom makers on the West Coast.

The Z-Axis Spey rods are significantly softer than the Euro designs they replaced.

This is a trend in the industry,,,,,unfortunate for those who prefer the faster (not stiff) rods with soft tips and stronger middle and lower sections. My definition of fast is the XP and RPL series, the stiff rods are the TCR series.

    Regards,
    FK

i know that george anderson did a test, he is the owner of yellowstone angles in livingston mt. the z axis had the lightest swing weight of all the rods tested.

What's all the hubub about these rods? To each his own but I don't care for them. I'll stick with my XP.

its all about having the "latest" and " greatest " stuff. you are right though the xp will do just fine. the only problem is that they took out the xp so there is only a limited amount of them out there.
