    Loon, BIO-GLO Indicator

I stumbled today upon Loon's BIO-GLO indicator putty, so I got some. Seems to work in the dark. . .I opened it up in dark room, and it really lit up neon green. Is it that clear on the river during the dark hours? Has anyone used this?

    Dave,

I dont want to sound like a 'know-it-all"... but ..

If it's the putty im thinking of.. it say on the package, recharge when the glow dims (or some like the right)....

    Next...
if you using heavy line and try to make a long cast... the line can cut though it.
Im not saying it does it right away.. maybe after an hour or 2 of use.

    here is what I use...

    drilled out 1/4"....

and I put one of the babies in the hole...

    This is what you get..

    This is in total darkness..

This night sticks can also be purchased at Wal-mart in the fishing section..
not sure of their name at wal-mart.. but when you may add to add tape to the stick to get them snug.. There are a bit small (dia) then the cyalume sticks...

Note: if you get a bunch of floats to do this.. before you drill all of them to big.. do one until the stick fits in it..

Also... if you think you glow stick is to bright... use a waterproof sharpie to tone it down, Leave about 1/4-1/2inch uncolored, and make so that is the part (glowing) sticking up out of the float...

That is aa Excellentpost about the glow in dark techniques! Truly great. I have tried the bioglow putty and have found that it does not glow enough to be used on a strike indicator. If the moon is out at all, it gets lost in the glare. But, Nightanglers idea is great. i can't believe that it doesn't spook fish. Excellent
You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish.

I have tried those types of indicators and I find that they sink when you use lots of weight. If you are going to nymph with small shot like a size 1 or a 4 you are ok. Those indicators are not as sensitive as the yarn. Also, I have found that the Mucilin that I use to coat the yarn with does not work as well with the foam. I am excited about the possibility of glow in the dark indicators! I know we can so awesome nymphing at night with stoneflies in late May early June.

Agreed. The foam is not as sensitive, and I've found that when using larger amounts (when using more shot), the sensitivity goes way down. . .as expected. Also, regardless of the shape of the mold (when I've used them I've molded them around the leader in an oval-ish shape), they really cause a big splash if your not careful. I was hooked on the foam for while just because it seemed to work well when fishing fast water (the combination of the color, size and weight) made it appealing.

I still haven't had a chance to try that Bio-Glo yet. As I've heard, it probably has to be kept within close proximity to see.
