Thanks Fred!
I highly recommend anyone considering this class to sign up. Saturday November 21st, 9AM-1PM at Housatonic River Outfitters in Cornwall Bridge, CT. I took the class two years ago and it was fantastic.
My first impression of Czech Nymphing was the same old short line / high stick techniques we have used for years. NOT True,,,, it is very subtle and not easily understood from articles or on line discussions.
The application of these Euro techniques is well understood by Aaron, Alain-B and Nymphmeister. This class is revolutionary for new FF and old timers like myself.
You do not absolutely need a new 10ft-11ft rod,,,, any 9ft trout rod is fine. The key is presentation and strike detection. Aaron will show the class how to make the special leaders and diagram the river for holding areas and the seasonal changes where fish move with temperatures and water flows. This class totally changed my nymph fishing experience.
If you are attending the FF show in Danbury this weekend a sampling of Euro Nymphing will be given in a lecture by Aaron on Saturday Nov. 14, this is not a substitute for on the water live demo and a small class.
Regards,
FK
Thanks Fred!
Ditto. I tell this story all the time. The day Mike and I took Aaron's class, we went to the Farmington afterwards. We hiked in through the snow. When we arrived, I rigged up the leader per Aaron's specifications (we also made one in class), and put on a tandem rig like he showed us. At the time, I remember tying on a cased caddis and a stonefly. On about my fourth drift I hooked up with a nice holdover brown! Mike and I were amazed at our new found success. This was also the day that I bought my 10ft 5wt Z-Axis, again per Aaron's recommendation. Take the class, take notes, write down the formula and ask about MENDING (the key). To this day I use the same leader, but I never give out the formula to anyone. Aaron and I call it the "TPO leader."
The TPO website is a great source of information about Euro-nymphing but you need to see it done in person by experts like Aaron .The class has lots of room for discussion and Q an A . I have attended two classes and I constantly refer back to those two classes while I am fishing. This is a very smart way to spend your fishing dollars
Aaron are you going to have another class in Nj before spring?
The clinic is good but if you can afford it, book a guide trip with Aaron Jasper. To book him, you need to go to his Evolution of Fly Fishing web site. He now runs his own guide service. So if you specifically want Aaron to teach you one on one, you can no longer book him thru the HRO fly shop. He is one of the top 10 fly fishing professionals in the country today. There are plenty of quasi professional guides out there who will gladly take you out and you might even catch a few and have a fun day but, will you be a better fisherman when its over? In all aspects of life there are people willing to take our money and provide just OK or mediocre services. Aaron truly raises the bar as far as what you can expect of a guide and it should be so noted.
aaron,
I'm new to czech nymphing and would like to take the class on Sat. Is there still room?
I cancelled that class due to the fact that I was going to do one for HRO during the same ti e period. If you would like to do a half day guide trip send me a pm and we can set up a date. 4 hours should be ample time t geet you up and running! When teaching thes tecniques I feel that multiple half days are far better than one full day. That way you practice what you've learned and then we build upon that knowledge on future trips. This is very much like how I teach the kids... A lesson, some homework and then another lesson![]()
I know that there is a free euro nymphing class going on in jersey this sunday. For those of you that are strapped for cash. Why pay for it in this economic climate,When you can get it for free
How about because you get what you pay for...
How about because Aaron taught both guys giving that class what euro nymphing is, and without TPO they probably wouldn't know half of what they know about Euro methods? No disrespect meant to them or their skills but if you asked them, I'm sure they would be the first to tell you their knowledge base, time on stream, and fish catching ability are dwarfed by Aaron's.
How about because you want to support this community through supporting Aaron's guide business? Aaron is feeding a lot of the money he makes guiding back into the upkeep of the content provided for free here.
How about because this site is maintained by myself and supported with info and content from Aaron and you want to learn from the best, one on one?
How about as a thank you for the millions of words of advice, steam reports, and tips provided for free on this site?
