Aaron and crew - I was wondering if you could start a forum for steelhead? It's gonna be that time soon. Time to start wailin' out some sucker spawn, etc.! I think they qualify as big fish ;D

we can throw those topics under ny or pa. if there are any specific questions about where to find the fish you can pm me if you would like. i have three VERY good sources of information up there. and if any of you guys would like i can give yuo their contact info as well. the best fisherman up there is my buddy kevin from www.catchthedrfit.com .... as a matter of fact i think that his fall season is almost booked already. he is that good. his number is 800 934 4861 there is also john kopy... awesome salmon river guide. he knows where every steelhead that decides to enter that river resides. 315-387-6343. he also has a lodge on the naknek river in alaska. the site address is http://www.sklodge.com/index.html the third is jason hamilton. he is the best float fisherman out there hands down. if there are steelhead and trout in the stream he will get them on your line. i will also be taking justin up there quite often since he has the itch to catch some of those beasts. if there are any questions about fly recipes we can put them under fly tying? hope this helps.

It seems you know Kevin Davis, ever fished with him? My buddy and I have gone with him over the years in town (Oswego) and some other hidey holes he turned us onto. The boy does know every rock in the river. I'd love to see some posts on the brown/steelhead fishery up that way.

Yeah I know Kevin very well. I stay over there all of the time. We went to Alaska two years ago. Alaska spoiled me so much that I never went to Oswego last year. When Kevin gets going in the fall he is going to send me pics and reports and I am going to put them up on here. Yes ... I don't think that you can find a better fisherman than Kevin up there. Between him and my friend Jason there is an unlimited amount of trib fishing info. I am just lucky that I met up with those guys. So do you like the drop it in and sent it down method of float fishing? Its pretty neat lol. I compare it to playing a video game . As someone I know says when the float drops the BS stops lol.

We landed and released some nice steelhead out on the lake this year so based on that limited success and some very good fishing in the spring I am very optimistic and anxious to get up there as soon as conditions improve in the river. They need rain and cooler temps. Last year the steelies were coming in right with the salmon in Sept and Oct.

Oh, and if you are fortunate enough to have fished in Alaska you have to put that out of your mind while fishing NY. It is a whole different world in Alaska and I hope everyone is working on a way to get there someday.

I was lucky enough to have gone once and those pictures are still fresh in my minds's eye even though it was a very long time ago.

You guys are animals! Summer is not even over yet. 8) some cooler temps and more water are definitely needed all around here and the prospect of some huge steelhead is mouthwatering.

Unfortunately, I don't get up there as much as I want to, but some really nice 10-14 lb fish this year including one that jumped all over the place maybe 20 times or more. Thought itself a marlin, I guess. We got some of it on video in the lake. That fish was so hot and just bolted away ready for another day. I'd like to see her again, maybe in November, with a few more pounds on her. One I will never forget. A couple more big ones on Sandy that ran us up and down the creek in a snowstorm Easter weekend.

Summer is going by quickly, now. Looking forward to fall, not winter.

I sure hope so...My big plans to fish the WB this year have amounted to zero but the salmon and steelhead gear is ready to go....Work really gets in the way of fishing!
