TMC 5263 in size 4-8 is an easy to find substitute in 3XL. You can also use a 4X long streamer hook. You bend the hook yourself with a pliers prior to tying on the materials.
The suggested hook, the Daiichi 1870, is all but impossible to find. Have you any other suggestions for substitutes? Also the bend on the hook shown in the Video, is that done in house? 8)

Dr. BD, look at The Canadian Llama Company. I found the hooks there. They were very resonably priced. Box of 100 was $11, and they only took a few days to get here. Much cheaper than anywhere else I looked. But 6 was the biggest they had.
The Daiichi 1870 is rated as 3xl, but they seem more like 5xl, so a #6 is more like the equivalent to a TMC 5263 #4. I have them at our shop, but definitely cannot compete with the price mentioned above. Currently I stock them from #4 to #10, but as Alain mentioned you can bend a straight hook to shape also if you want. I seem to break every 3rd one when I do that though >Wire bending pliers help with that, probably look in a craft store for those pliers.

As long as we are talking about breaking hooks for Vladis I use TMC 300 in size 8 usually. The other day I tried to use size 10 and broke like 5 in a row. Just bad luck I guess.
Wait, Canadian Llama Company??? O_o
Shouldn't they be selling... Llamas? Not... Tiemco hooks?![]()
I suggest bending Mustad hooks, they are not as brittle compared to the Japanese manuf. hooks. Never had one break when bending to various shapes.
My hook bending pliers came from my dentist, they use a great variety of special pliers for shaping wire. You could also take some low cost stainless pliers and use a file to round off the sharp edges on the jaw sides, this is where the high stress if formed and causes breaks.

Sorry Torrey, didn't know if you guy's carried them. But as you said the 6 is more like a 4. Just started tying thhe worm, can't wait to get out there and try em out. The only problem I had was trying to explain to the wife why I got 2 dozen rubbers in the mail. LOL.
Yeah, the girl on the phone at CondomDepot.com sounded pretty amused when I told here we tie pink worm flies with them. She said those Crown condoms are selling like crazy lately, Lol.
