Hey guys and gals, just want to briefly introduce myself to the board. I have been an avid fly fisher and tyer for close to 30 years now. Trout are my favorite fish by far but I do chase steelies and stripers when I can. Hope I can learn some new things from you all and share some of the things I have learned in the last 3 decades of trout fishing. Tight lines Pappa
bocast, I let the fish dictate to me how I fish. Certain times of the year its nymphs and streamers. When the fish are rising I fish on top. I do prefer to dry fly fish but certain times of year or certain peices of water require other tactics. I 'm not going to walk past a nice run because there is nothing rising.I will strap on a nymph and go to work, and on the other side I won't be slinging nymphs when there are fish rising eveywere. Just as long as I'am fishing I'm happy. I will even swing wets but I'm not to good at it.
Get some really small bwo style soft hackles and dead drift them during the fall bwo hatches. You will destroy the fish!
Also, it's almost isonychia time so wet fly time is coming fast! A leadwing coachman is all you need. I also like a size 8 and 10 Coc de Leon tail claret biot body and a hen winged soft hackle for them. It's killer for when the trout are whacking the swimming nymphs.
